I am not by any means a huge gamer but I do have some knowledge about some video games. I have a significant other who loves x-box and playstation and because of that my knowledge has grown. I’m a nintendo girl. If a video game is not about Mario and Luigi I don’t seem to care much. So im getting super pumped about the release of Mario Kart 8 for Wii-U May 30th and I thought “Hey let me practice my driving skills for Friday!” I pop in my Mario Kart for Wii and start up the online race. To my utter dismay, I got a notice on my screen saying I can no longer play online. The feature is discontinued. WTF! How can Nintendo just do that to their loyal patrons. So I looked on-line and I guess I missed the boat by a couple of days. Online playing was discontinued as of May 20, 2014. The following is from Nintendo.com. As of May 20, 2014, certain online functionality offered through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is no longer accessible. The discontinued services include online play, matchmaking and leaderboards for many Wii, Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi games. For a comprehensive list of games and services that are affected, please check http://support.nintendo.com/servicesupdate. Users can still play the games in offline mode, which continues to offer a rich game-play experience. Online play for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games is unaffected by the change (aside from the Wii mode on Wii U and Nintendo DS games on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems). Other online functionality—such as access to the Wii Shop Channel, the Nintendo DSi Shop, and video-on-demand services—is also not affected at this time. We at Nintendo sincerely thank our fans for their continued support of our company’s legacy systems. Your enthusiasm for games made for these systems speaks to their longevity and the passion of Nintendo fans. Back in the day they were the pioneers of all virtual gaming and today they are a joke. With recent reports that just recently came stating Wii-U undersold what Nintendo had originally thought spells doom for the company. I hope they can find a way to bounce back. I know Mario Kart is fun but it’s funner to play against other people who are better than you. That’s how you get better. I’m hoping that the arrival of Mario Kart 8 on Friday will brighten my mood with Nintendo.
