Scandal lets go of a Gladiator…was it the right choice?

Netflix and I have formed a bond. A bond so strong it helps me forget about that day job i spend 60 plus hours at, it’s my escape. I found Scandal and fell in love with this show. After watching House of Cards I was craving another political thriller… I just needed more Frank Underwood, and I came across this show. Season1 started slow but man Season 2 made up for it and 3 well three was pretty awesome. It was interesting to see this show flourish and get better.

It’s no surprise Columbus Short AKA Harrison Wright ran into some legal problems, even TMZ asked him if he wished he had a real Olivia Pope. When news broke today that Short was not returning made me sad.

“At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I’ve called home for three years, with what is the most talented ensemble on television today. I would like to first thank Shonda Rhimes for the opportunity to work with such an amazing cast. Thank you Gladiators, who have supported me throughout my entire career and of course to ABC and Shondaland for allowing me to play such a pivotal role in the Scandal series. I have enjoyed every single minute of it. Everything must come to an end and unfortunately the time has come for Harrison Wright to exit the canvas. I wish nothing but the best for Shonda, Kerry and the rest of the cast, who have become like a second family to me in such a short amount of time. For this, I will forever be grateful.”

So I’m assuming Papa Pope took care of him at the end of Season 3. In March, the actor was arrested for felony battery after allegedly punching a man in the face and knocking him unconscious during an engagement party at Gabe’s Bar and Grill in Los Angeles. As reported by TMZ earlier this month, Short’s wife Tanee — who has filed for divorce from the actor — claims that the actor put a knife to her throat and threatened to commit murder-suicide in a fit of jealousy, then slashed her tire as she fled.

I know these are alleged claims but was it absolutely necessary to kill him off? Why not put him in coma until these allegations are cleared up? Is Shonda Rhimes that paranoid? The reason I may be defending Short is because of a love of his character. He was Olivia’s number 1 he was the leader of the Gladiators. It’s just a shame. Since Wright wrote his exit letter im not sure what his chances are of returning down the line but it is really just a shame his personal life interfered with his professional life.
