So this week had a lot of interesting news in pop culture, but one struck a cord with me. Joey Fatone a member of the boy band NSYNC was interview by the Huffington Post and asked if a NSYNC reunion would happen again he said,
“It was fun, it was interesting, but I don’t know if it’s ever going to happen again, I don’t know whether or not something will ever happen again, but again you always say never say never because that happened. That was never gonna happen and all of a sudden it did happen.
Fatone added, “At this moment in time is anything gonna happen? Absolutely, 100 percent no…at this moment.”
Sorry, ‘N Sync fans!
Fatone also took on his fellow boy band groups and even threw some shade. “All these other groups and bands said that we will never tour again and you see New Kids on The Block tour and stuff like that,” he said.
The HuffPost anchor then brought up the Backstreet Boys‘ recent reunion and Fatone joked, “I feel like they just need the money,” before quickly adding, “No offense guys!”
Really? What the Fuck?
So I have to say that when BSB vs NSYNC were huge in 1999 we all had a group we loved, for some reason I just loved the Backstreet Boys. I remember watching TRL and watching all those music videos on the countdown. Here is the thing about both these groups not many people know about. Backstreet Boys came first.
The Backstreet Boys started their band back in 1992 in Orlando and were under the direction of Lou Pearlman the swindler manager who took the majority of their earnings from the get go. They had a tough road making it big They flew to Sweden to record some songs with Max Martin in 1995 and blew up by 1998. In 1997, Littrell brought a lawsuit against Lou Pearlman and Trans Continental claiming that Pearlman had not been truthful about the earnings made by the group. In the following year, McLean, Richardson, and Dorough joined the lawsuit which eventually resulted in a number of settlements.
NSYNC was formed in 1995 in Orlando as well but their shot to super stardom didn’t take as long as it did for the Backstreet Boys. They did well in such a short time but just like the Backstreet Boys the also sued Lou Pearlman. In 1998, ‘N Sync entered a publicized legal battle with Lou Pearlman, due to what the group believed were illicit business practices on his part. ‘N Sync sued Pearlman and his record company, Trans Continental, for defrauding the group of more than fifty percent of their earnings, rather than his promise of only receiving one-sixth of the profits. The group threatened to leave and sign with Jive Records, which prompted Pearlman and RCA to countersue ‘N Sync for 150 million and the use of the name. Pearlman’s request for a preliminary injunction against the band was denied. After reaching a settlement out of court, ‘N Sync signed with Jive.
These two groups duked it out for several years, the Backstreet Boys have said NSYNC’s rise was easier because Lou at some point turned it back on them which ensured NSYNC’s rise would fill Lou’s pocket. At the end the tough road only made the Backstreet Boys stronger so strong they have not stopped performing since 1993. Kevin Richardson left the group for a little bit and was absent for two albums but he returned and the group is still going strong.
So with this being said, 20 years together 8 Albums, one greatest hits album 9 albums total. So the backstreet boys need the money? May I remind you how many tours they have been on? 12. 130 million albums sold.
So how does NSYNC stack up?
3 albums, tours 4. 50 million albums sold
Lets face it we all know that Justin Timberlake was just oozing with talent I wont deny that. He pulled a Beyonce and never looked back. Justin knew he was better than the rest of the guys and he capitalized on his oportunity. I honestly think the rest of the guys were just pissed that Justin never invited any of them to work on his solo albums he just up and left. They did reunite briefly at the VMAS August 25, 2013 for Justin’s 15 minute set leading up to his acceptance of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Now Joey has done some odd jobs outside of music Dancing with the Stars, a small part in Big Fat Greek Wedding, and is currently an announcer on Family Fued. So who really needs the money?
All these guys are just pissed off they didn’t have the capabilities to replicate what Justin Did. I mean Justin got the better end of the deal I mean he even married Jessica Beal. What is worse I don’t think they are even in touch with Justin, I dont even think any of NSYNC were at Justin’s wedding. So the friendship and brotherhood is clearly not there. So just because you have sour grapes against a group who clearly has it together and are still doing what they love doesn’t make it right for you to rain on their parade. Even Nick was upset.
“Just disappointed, I really liked joey…” Carter wrote on Twitter. He added, “I’m proud of who we are and love what we stand for. Truthfully its about not letting our fans down. Sorry bro but you have us all wrong.”
Agreed. So Joey take your sour grapes and negativity somewhere else…take it back to the family feud because obviously NSYNC is still feuding among themselves.
